A bridal suite near Quartz Valley: getting ready at Blossom for a Scott Valley wedding

The ranch venues of Scott Valley are made for a big day under a big sky. What they rarely have is a quiet house for the hours around it. That is what Blossom Sanctuary is for: a private retreat house just outside Etna that becomes your bridal suite, your groom's suite, your rehearsal dinner and your morning-after brunch, all a short drive from the venue.

Pair Blossom with a Quartz Valley venue

Quartz Valley sits on the west side of Scott Valley, near Fort Jones, and it is home to ranch venues like Lonesome Longhorn. Hold the ceremony and reception there, or at Dowling Ranch, and keep Blossom as the wedding retreat. It sleeps up to four adults or a family of up to six, and the couch makes a comfortable extra bed. For a celebration weekend, the house stretches to six adults.

The getting-ready house

  • Morning light in the main bedroom, a California King under vaulted ceilings, and room to spread out for hair and makeup.

  • A kitchen for the wedding party: coffee, breakfast and something cold for the people doing the work.

  • Getting-ready photos with Della of Circle Bar Co. among the oaks and lavender, before anyone leaves the property.

  • Beauty the day before: facials, lashes, nails and makeup at Citrine Lounge Spa in Etna, Monday to Saturday.

  • A quiet hour in the garden before the car comes. Nobody is on the other side of the wall.

The bride and the groom, two places to get ready

Some couples split it: the bride and her people at Blossom, the groom and his at the venue, or the other way around. The house works either way, and it is where everyone comes back to. Need help on the day? Gent's Rents & Events in Fort Jones offers day-of coordination from $1,500 and heirloom rentals like arches, a champagne wall and a white bar.

The rehearsal dinner

The kitchen is set for a dinner party, and a private chef can cook at the house for an added fee. Or walk to Denny Bar Co. on Main Street and book it on Tock. For more than 14 people on the property at one time, tell us ahead so we can help with the proper permits.

After the reception, and the morning after

Come home to the wood stove, late toasts in the kitchen and nobody driving anywhere. In the morning, set a long table for brunch with your closest people before everyone heads home. There is no taxi or ride-share in Scott Valley, so plan a sober driver from the venue.

Ways to structure the weekend

  • Thursday to Sunday: arrive, rehearsal dinner Friday, the wedding Saturday at the venue, brunch Sunday.

  • Friday to Sunday: the classic two nights around the wedding day.

  • Stay on: the wedding party leaves Sunday, and the honeymoon starts that afternoon. See a honeymoon at Blossom.
