Fall Fungus Fair in McCloud: Sunday, November 8, 2026

The Mount Shasta Mycological Society holds its first annual Fall Fungus Fair on Sunday, November 8, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM at the McCloud Dance Hall in McCloud. It is a day of mushroom displays, talks and hands-on workshops celebrating the fungi of the Mount Shasta region, for seasoned foragers and the simply curious.

When is the Fall Fungus Fair?

Sunday, November 8, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, per the Discover Siskiyou listing. Tickets and the latest schedule are on the society's event page.

Where is it and how do you get there from Etna?

The McCloud Dance Hall is at 104 Pine Street in McCloud, a historic hall with a big maple dance floor, so the whole fair is indoors. From Blossom it is about 1 hour 25 minutes.

Go down over Gazelle: Gazelle-Callahan Road from Callahan to Gazelle, then on to McCloud. It's only a touch longer, but you see gorgeous land and Lovers Leap rock, and it's a nice cell-phone-free drive (there's no service). Come home through Yreka on I-5 and Highway 3.

Sunset is about 4:56 PM, and the fair runs until 6. To drive home in daylight, plan to leave McCloud by about 3:30. If you stay to the end, the drive home will be after dark: go with someone, stay on I-5 and Highway 3, take it slow for deer, and check Caltrans QuickMap for early snow.

What should you know before you go?

  • What's on: mushroom displays, educational talks and guest speakers, vendors, and hands-on workshops, including cooking with mushrooms and dyeing fabric with mushroom-derived color.

  • Tickets and price: see the event page for prices and workshop sign-ups.

  • Kids: the listing doesn't say, but displays and dye work tend to fascinate young naturalists. Ask the society through the event page if you're bringing children.

  • Bring: a notebook for identification tips, and a bag for anything you buy from vendors.

  • The bigger picture: learning at a fair like this is the best preparation for a guided foray. This time of year we encourage heading into the woods only with an experienced guide.
