Thanksgiving in Scott Valley, 2026

A small table, a warm stove and a quiet valley: how to spend Thanksgiving week 2026 in and around Etna, California.

Picture Thursday afternoon. The light is low across Scott Valley, the wood stove has been going since breakfast, and the kitchen smells like something that has been roasting for hours. Four of you, or a family of six, or a handful of friends who decided this year to do Friendsgiving properly, are setting the round wooden table beside the fire. Nobody has to drive home after dinner. That is the case for Thanksgiving at Blossom Sanctuary: your people, one house, and a valley that is very good at being quiet. Thanksgiving falls on Thursday, November 26, 2026, and the week around it has a few gentle things going on nearby. See what's on around Etna on our events calendar as you plan.

Who this week suits

The house is made for up to four adults, or a family of up to six. That makes it a natural fit for a small Thanksgiving table: two couples who would rather cook together than travel to a crowded family house, a family with children who wants the holiday to feel like a holiday, or four friends doing Friendsgiving with a real kitchen and nobody's in-laws. You book the whole house, so the table, the kitchen and the stove are yours for the week.

Cooking the holiday dinner here

The kitchen is a full one, set up for a dinner party, which is exactly what Thanksgiving is. A few things make it easier:

  • Shop before you arrive, or in Yreka. Etna is a small town, so bring the specialty items from home, or stop at the grocery stores in Yreka on your way in from Interstate 5. Do it before Wednesday afternoon if you can, when everyone else in the county has the same idea.

  • Plan the menu around a small table. For four to six people, you do not need a twenty-pound bird. A smaller turkey, a roast or a few good sides you love will fill the round table nicely.

  • Divide the cooking. Friendsgiving works best when each person or couple owns a dish. The kitchen has room for more than one cook, and the stove-side table is right there for whoever is not cooking to keep the conversation going.

The week, day by day

Saturday, November 21: an early start. If you are taking a longer stay and arrive by the weekend before, a 3 PM check-in on Saturday gets you to Moana at the Avery Memorial Theatre in Etna. Doors open at 4:30 PM and the film starts at 5. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for youth and students, and free for children 5 and under, with beer and wine at the concession for guests 21 and over.

Monday and Tuesday, November 23 and 24: the Beaver supermoon. The full moon of November is a supermoon this year, exactly full early on Tuesday, November 24. On the evenings of the 23rd and 24th it rises nearly full at dusk (moon calendar). Take your coats out to the lawn after dinner and watch it come up over the ridges.

Wednesday, November 25: prep day. Brine, chop, bake the pie, set the table. Then walk to Main Street, which is a short walk from the house, and let someone else watch the oven for an hour.

Thursday, November 26: Turkey Trot, then dinner. The 21st Scott Valley Schools' Turkey Trot runs from 9 to 11 AM. Choose a 3-mile run or walk, or a 6-mile run, on paved and gravel roads with rolling hills. It benefits Etna PAL and Etna High athletics. The listing's registration link points to Fort Jones but does not state the start location, so check the listing when you register.

Friday, November 27: Mt. Shasta Winter Magic. The Mt. Shasta Winter Magic and Hometown Light Parade runs from 1 to 9 PM along E Castle Street and N Mt. Shasta Boulevard in Mount Shasta. It is the Chamber's annual street fair, with food and craft vendors, carriage rides, a light parade, Santa and a tree lighting. Mount Shasta is roughly an hour and a quarter from Etna by Highway 3 and Interstate 5. Go for the afternoon vendors and carriage rides, and plan to head home before dark. The light parade comes after sunset, so treat it as a weather call: only stay if QuickMap shows clear roads, and drive back together.

Saturday, November 28: Weed's Olde Fashion Christmas. The Weed Olde Fashion Christmas and Tree Lighting is from 5 to 7 PM at Heritage Plaza on Main Street by City Hall in Weed, a good last evening if your stay runs through Saturday night. There is a tree lighting, Santa's arrival and caroling around a wood-burning fire pit, with free hot chocolate, chili, cookies and raffle prizes (event listing). Weed is roughly an hour from Etna, and this one happens after dark, so go only on a clear, dry evening after checking QuickMap.

Winter driving, plainly

Late November can bring the first real snow to the passes. Our season safety rule is simple: drive in daylight, stay together and check Caltrans QuickMap before every drive for chain controls, closures and road cameras. You can also call 1-800-427-7623 for road conditions. Carry chains that fit your car, keep the tank full, and pack water, snacks, a scraper and a blanket. Do not plan any winter route over Etna Summit toward the Salmon River; that road is seasonal because of snow. Evening events like the Mount Shasta parade and Weed's tree lighting mean a drive home in the dark, which our rule normally avoids. If the forecast or QuickMap looks doubtful, skip them and enjoy the stove instead; they will be back next year.

What Thanksgiving week costs

Late November is low season. A full week is $2,000 and three nights are from $1,090, with cleaning and every fee included and the 14% county lodging tax shown before you pay. For four adults, a week comes to $2,280 total, or $570 each (about $81 per person per night). Three nights come to $1,242.60, about $311 each. For two couples, three nights are about $621 per couple. These are founding rates for members of the Sovereign Circle, which is free to join through December 31, 2026.

Common questions

Can we cook Thanksgiving dinner at the house? Yes. The house has a full kitchen set up for a dinner party, and a round wooden dining table beside the wood stove that suits a holiday meal for four to six.

Is it a good cabin rental for Friendsgiving? It suits up to four adults very well. Two couples can each take a bedroom, or four friends can each have their own bed using the loft and the couch, which makes a comfortable extra bed.

What is happening near Etna over Thanksgiving weekend? The Scott Valley Schools' Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning, Mt. Shasta Winter Magic on Friday, November 27, and Weed's Olde Fashion Christmas on Saturday, November 28.

Will there be snow on the roads? It is possible. Drive in daylight, stay together and check Caltrans QuickMap before you go.

Thanksgiving here is a small table, a long dinner and a quiet morning after. When you are ready, check dates and price your stay, and see what's on around Etna on our events calendar for the rest of the season.
