When does the Mount Shasta Ice Rink open?
Opening day is Saturday, November 14, 2026, and the season runs through Sunday, February 21, 2027. Public skate sessions last 90 minutes, with a break between sessions while the ice is resurfaced. Session times are posted on the rink's calendar, and you can call the rink at (530) 926-1715.
Where is it and how do you get there from Etna?
The rink is at Shastice Park, 1315 Nixon Road in Mount Shasta. From Blossom it is about 1 hour 15 minutes.
Go over Gazelle: Gazelle-Callahan Road from Callahan to Gazelle, then on to Mount Shasta. It's only a touch longer, but you see gorgeous land and Lovers Leap rock, and it's a nice cell-phone-free drive (there's no service). Come back through Yreka on I-5 and Highway 3.
Sunset is about 4:50 PM in mid-November, so pick a midday session and you can be home by dark. If you skate an evening session, the drive home will be after dark: go with someone, stay on I-5 and Highway 3, take it slow for deer and check Caltrans QuickMap for snow and ice.
What should you know before you go?
Prices for 2026 to 2027: adults (18 and up) $12; youth (4 to 17), seniors (65 and up) and active military $9; skate rental $3. Prices can change each season. Cards and cash are accepted.
Weather: the rink is completely outdoors and may close at any time for bad weather. Check the forecast and call before you drive.
Food and water: none is sold at the rink, so bring your own water and snacks.
What to wear: warm layers, gloves and thick socks. Helmets are a good idea for young skaters.
Kids: youth pricing starts at age 4, so this is an easy family outing.
Follow along: the district posts updates on Instagram and Facebook.
