Good news for anyone who has ever said "just one more game" and meant six: Etna has eight outdoor pickleball courts, a friendly local club, mountains on every side and, at the end of the day, a wood stove with your name on it. Here is everything you need to plan a pickleball retreat in Siskiyou County, plus our recipe for the perfect pickle and sip weekend.
Etna pickleball at a glance
Where: Etna High School, 400 Howell Avenue, Etna, CA 96027.
Courts: 8 outdoor pickleball courts with permanent nets, plus 2 tennis courts.
Rainy days: 2 indoor courts at Scott Valley Berean Church, 134 Church Street.
Cost: your first three visits are free. After that, $5 a visit or $30 a year for club membership.

Who to know: the Scott Valley Pickleball Club.
The courts: big dill energy
Etna High School outdoor courts
Eight outdoor courts with permanent nets sit at Etna High School on Howell Avenue, a few minutes from Blossom Sanctuary. The courts were resurfaced in May 2025 and have multi-sport lines, so pickleball and tennis share the space nicely. Two tennis courts were freshly painted too, if somebody in your group is still loyal to the big rackets.
The courts are not lighted, so plan around daylight. In winter that means a mid-morning or early afternoon game, which conveniently leaves the evening open for the sipping portion of the program.
Indoor courts when it rains
When the weather turns, the club moves indoors to two courts at Scott Valley Berean Church, 134 Church Street in Etna. Siskiyou County also has indoor courts in Fort Jones, Yreka and Mount Shasta if you want to make a road trip of it.
The schedule: when to show up
In summer, the Etna High School courts are generally open from sunrise to sunset. During the school year, availability depends on school use, so the high school always comes first. The club posts its organized play times online, and that is the easiest way to find a game.
The apps: how to find a game
Playtime Scheduler: free, and it only asks for an email address. Choose California as your state and "Mount Shasta, Siskiyou Co" as your region, then sign up for a session. Check the skill level on each session. If you are not sure of your level, the club says you are probably 3.0 or lower, and that is perfectly fine.
Pickleheads: handy for finding courts, including the indoor courts at Berean Church.
The club website and Facebook page: the Scott Valley Pickleball Club posts news, events and weather changes there. Members also get the club email list.
The cost: cheaper than a jar of fancy pickles
Visitors and beginners: free for your first three visits, no membership needed.
After three visits: $5 a visit, or join the club.
Club membership: $30 a year. Pay by cash or check and fill out a form with a club officer at a scheduled play time.
New to pickleball? Relish it
The club welcomes beginners. Show up at a scheduled time, introduce yourself, and members will teach you the basics and have you playing real games in no time. Bring your own paddle if you have one, plus water, a layer and court shoes.
Pickle and sip: our Siskiyou weekend recipe
Pickle and sip is not an official event. It is simply the best way we know to spend a day in Etna: play hard, then sit down somewhere good and talk about the shots you almost made.
Morning: pickle. Coffee from Wildwood Coffee on Main Street, then a few games at the high school courts.
Midday: recover. The sauna at Mountain Healing Spa, or a massage with Mari Kraus Massage and Wellness. Your forearm will thank you.
Afternoon: sip. A pint on the heated patio at Etna Brewing Company, or an afternoon glass back at the house.
Evening: feast. Dinner at Denny Bar Co. on Main Street, then the wood stove and a long argument about who won the third game.
Sip responsibly, and never drive after drinking. The best part of staying in Etna is that dinner, the brewery and the courts are all a few minutes from the house.
A pickleball retreat at Blossom Sanctuary
Blossom Sanctuary is a private retreat house a few minutes from the Etna High School courts. It sleeps up to four adults or a family of up to six, and the couch makes a comfortable extra bed. Four adults is exactly one doubles game, which feels like fate.
Two winter nights: $783 at the founding member rate, plus 14% county lodging tax, is $892.62 for the house. That is about $223 each for a doubles foursome.
Membership: join the Sovereign Circle free through December 31, 2026 to get the member rate.
Recovery built in: plan a spa day with our Etna spa and wellness guide, or keep training with the 21-day kettlebell and yoga challenge.
Book it: see open dates and prices, or text the concierge at 530 572 1122.
Tournaments nearby
The sister clubs in Mount Shasta and Yreka and Montague host one-day scrambles through the year, and the Mount Shasta club runs an annual tournament. Check the Siskiyou pickleball website for dates, then build a stay around it.
