When is the Scott Valley Turkey Trot?

Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 26, 2026. Race-day registration opens at 8:00 AM, and the races start at 9:00 AM. The event wraps up by about 11:00 AM, in plenty of time for the big meal.

Where is it and how do you get there from Etna?

The start is at the corner of Hamlin Gulch and Eastside Road, Fort Jones. Park in the barn lot there. From Blossom, it's a short drive north on Eastside Road, the quiet back road through the valley, right to the start. Coming from the Fort Jones side, the organizers' directions are to turn onto Eastside Road in Fort Jones and drive about 3 miles. It's a morning event, so you'll drive in daylight both ways.

What should you know before you go?

  • Distances: a 3-mile run or walk and a 6-mile run, per the listing. The registration page also shows them as a 5K and a 10K.

  • Sign up: register on Active. Online registration closes November 23, and you can still sign up on race morning.

  • Price: fees are on the registration page.

  • The course: paved and gravel, with gentle rolling hills and valley views.

  • Weather: the trot goes on in any weather unless there's severe ice. Dress for a frosty start: gloves, a hat and layers you can shed.

  • Prizes: awards go to the top three in each age group and race.

  • Families: walkers are welcome on the 3-mile course, so it works for the whole family.

  • Who it helps: high school athletics in Etna and the Etna PAL Claybirds. Etna PAL brings local officers, kids and families together all year.
